Munster is a town in North Township, Lake County Indiana part of the Chicago metro area about 30 miles southeast of downtown Chicago. It borders Hammond to the north, Highland to the east, Dyer and Schererville to the south, and Lansing and Lynnwood directly to the west. It's home to about 24,000 residents.
Munster has a unique history that began as a booming town but saw difficult times through the Great Depression. However, over the last 10 years, a comprehensive plan for Munster's development includes plans for a new town center was shopping and dining as well as a proposed train station. One of Munster's recent developments is the Centennial Village located to the north of Centennial Park. When completed, this will be a mixed-use transit-oriented development featuring residential housing and retail.
The School Town of Munster is the public school system and there are five schools all recognized as Indiana Blue Ribbon schools and been awarded five-star ratings. This alone is one of the main reasons many families choose Munster as their new home. There are two private schools, a high school, a middle school, and three elementary schools.
Munster features 10 parks, three lakes, a nine-hole golf course, 11 miles of biking and hiking paths, and a public art and sculpture program. Centennial Park is the highlight of the parks and wrecked apartment, which includes a clubhouse, banquet facilities, the View restaurant, the golf course and driving range, a live stage amphitheater, fountains, fishing, and a boardwalk.
