Burns Harper is located on the shores of Lake Michigan in Northwest Indiana. While it's in Indiana, it still part of the Chicago metro area and home to just over 1600 residents. It's nestled between Chesterton and Portage, just an hour east of Chicago.

Founded most recently back in 1966, the town took its name from a local port name for the harbors promoter Randall W Burns. Burns Harbor benefits from close access to many forms of transportation including the Chicago International Airport, O'Hare International Airport, and several other airports, the South Shore line commuter rail, the port of Indiana in Burns Harbor which includes an international shipping port, and multiple highways such as Interstate 80, 90, 94, and US Route 12 and 20.
There are several parks in Burns Harbor including Lakeland Park, Shadyside Park, and Bolinger Park, which operate year-round. Highway 12 runs east and west to the center of town as does the East Arm Little Calumet River surrounded by parks and green space. The entire town is bordered on the east by Indiana Dunes National Park with multiple micro parks, recreation facilities, and trails. On the west is the Portage Lakefront & Riverwalk, a 57-acre lakefront park featuring a beach, walking trails, pavilions, and concessions.
Residents of Burns Harbor is served by the Duneland school district and have several top schools including the Westchester intermediate school, the Chesterton Senior high school, Chesterton middle school, the Newton Yost elementary school, and the Jones elementary school. The Chesterton high school receives 9 out of 10 by great schools.org and is rated as one of the best high schools in Northwest Indiana.
There are approximately 15 to 50 homes for sale at any given time in Burns Harbor priced from $35,000 for lots of buildable land up to $300,000 for well-established homes. Brand-new homes are close to the $350,000 mark with many new homes being built currently in Corlin's Landing.
