Ogden DunesOgden Dunes is a town in Portage Township, Porter County Indiana. It's nestled on the shores of Lake Michigan surrounded by the city of Portage. All addresses are actually of Portage and is home to about 1100 residents. It was named for the multimillionaire Francis Ogden, who owned the land there before his death back in 1914. He was interested in the land because the dunes provided sand that could be scooped up and sold because it replenished itself naturally over time. Today, many residents help preserve parts of these Indiana Dunes.

The small community itself sits between the Indiana Dunes National Park and the Portage Lakefront and Riverwalk Park. All in all, this is probably one of the most unique places to live in Northwest Indiana so let's dive in and see why people find this area so attractive.

It's accessible in only one location off of Dunes Highway. At this intersection is a transit station and a parking lot for Park and ride. Ogden Dunes has its own police department and fire department with several parks, soccer fields, and churches but it is primarily a residential community. Restaurants, shops, and markets are not found within the community boundaries but just a couple of minutes East at the intersection of Interstate 94 and Crisman Road are several markets, restaurants, fast food options, and the Bass Pro Shop.

This small Lakeside residential community is known for its coastal Lake Michigan ambiance nestled in amongst the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. In the 1920s, this area was the home of the largest ski jump which was used for training Olympic ski jumpers and today it is still used for training local athletes because of the hilly landscape. Residents are part of the Save the Dunes Council, who are dedicating their efforts to preserving the environment of Northwest Indiana. Because residents are so close to Chicago, Ogden Dunes makes a great place to live, play, and relax and you'll get that small-town feeling just minutes away from the hustle and bustle of downtown.
