Welcome to the beautiful Lakeshore town of Beverly Shores. Located in Pine Township and Porter County, Beverly Shores is about 36 miles east of downtown Chicago and home to about 750 residents. This plant resort community got its start back in 1933 when Chicago real estate developer Frederick Bartlett purchased 3000 acres of lakefront property from local owners. This includes 5 miles of shoreline on Lake Michigan stretching from the western edge of Michigan City to the eastern border the Indiana Dunes State Park.
The Robert Bartlett Realty Company sold many lots and even though most were built up, few build homes but in the mid-1960s, a movement to include Beverly Shores in the proposed Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore began in several folks started building homes. The area experienced modest growth in the 1990s and in 1998, the Spanish Colonial revival train depot, originally built in 1929, was reopened to house a museum, display historic photography, and rotating exhibits of local art. Because of its easy accessibility to Chicago, Beverly Shores is actually a second home to many people that work and play in downtown Chicago.
Today, Beverly Shores attracts many visitors that are nature enthusiasts, cyclists, and birdwatchers as is primarily a residential area for those that love the beach and the marshlands. There are very limited overnight lodging options but there is a campsite at Dune would camp. Beverly Shores is part of the International Dark Sky Association, a US-based nonprofit organization built and designed by professional astronomers to preserve and protect the nighttime sky. Beverly Shores is also a Bird Town Indiana community.
There are several historical places and homes including Solomon Enclave, three historic homes located at Beverly Shores built in 1948 with creative architecture and unique views.
Residents of Beverly Shores with school-age children are assigned to the Pine elementary school, the Barker middle school, and the Michigan City high school.
Home prices in Beverly Shores are literally all over the board from $200,000 to over $1 million. Lots, land, luxury homes, and waterfront estates are all available as well as several homes to rent, ideal for investors, and retirees.
